The Varsity trip to Monmouth was very successful. Not onlly was there success in building relationships with one another, and getting to know some new faces, but the players did very well on the court.
Two teams traveled to Monmouth on Friday June 25th. One Varsity squad and one JV Squad. The tournament was comprised of 25 teams from all over southern Illinois and Iowa.
Team Highlights:
Both teams finished with 4-2 records Varsity got the 5th overall seed JV received the # 12 seed Varsity finished in the top 6 teams Some young players really stepped up to the challenge
There was a ton of basketball played, many bottles of water and Gatorade (8 cases of water alone), a whole bunch of laughter, and really bad singing. Great games were played and a good deal of time was spent getting to know each other better.
Some thoughts from Coach Pete Schneider:
"I was very pleased to see the teams all working with each other and reaching out to talk and share with a new face. The varsity girls know what is expected and it took very little encouragement for them to try and make everyone join in and feel comfortable."
"After some good spirited ribbing and “trash talking” the varsity team did what they needed to do in defeating the JV team. But it was not without a good fight by the JV team. The varsity girls won the best dressed for dinner, but also may have won the worst house keeping (that room was bad)"
A stop at Magic Waters water park was a fun final day of the trip-with good sun and many trips to the slides and rides.
Trips like this provide many great opportunities for our program, providing a chance to see how everyone gets along and work to bridge any gaps in unity. Coaches get to talk to players throughout the weekend to see what is going on in their lives, as well as note who steps up to help and take leadership roles.
"This is a great bunch of Young Ladies and I have no problem feeling comfortable taking them out. They represent Lakes High School and the Lakes Community very well. Most importantly they represent the Lakes Women’s Basketball Program in a manner that everyone can be proud of."
Great Job Lakes Lady Eagles!!!!
