Update from the Varsity Team in North Carolina

Hi this is Evan and Ashlee, (June 24)

We're on the second day of our trip and so far it has gone great.  The bus rides were long but we survived.  We arrived at London, Kentucky for our first stop and just had some time to swim and hang around with one another.  The second ride was not as long.  We took a quick stop at the Cumberland gap and took some cool pictures.  When we arrived in North Carolina we finally felt some nice weather and had dinner and swam in the pool together for a while until it was time to go to bed to prepare for our games the next day. Now were just waiting around in the hotel waiting to play our first game at 10 and two later in the day.  We'll update you on how those go!  Talk to you later!

Evan & Ashlee

From the coaches,

The team has been great on the bus rides, they have worked out some strange seating arrangements but are figuring out how to get comfortable.

We stopped at Purdue and walked around the student union and briefly stopped in at the bookstore.

Leaving London Kentucky we took a scenic route and visited Cumberland Gap and drove to the top of Pinnacle lookout, and walked to the lookout for some great pictures and seeing some unique "slugs" and "Geckos."  Of course only the fast saw them.

North Carolina is nice,  it is warm 90deg. today and not to humid. Nice pool, It was good for them to get outside and burns some energy playing some pool games though I heard that the rules kept changing!!

We are keeping the kids fed!!  Force feeding some healthier foods, but they are staying in good shape so far.

We play today at 10:00. 3:30 and 7:30  We will let you know how we do!!

Sunday June 26..

From Ashlee & Evan

Overall our games went pretty well. We won three out of the four games and  began to work together well.  We had one game early this morning and now have had the rest of the day to relax in the pool and get ready to go to Frankies Fun Park shortly.  We have all had a fun time getting to know each other better and coming together as a team.  It was a great experience to be able to come to such a great college and play on their courts.  Playing torps and gogs in the pool has been really fun even though it's super intense.  Well we're headed off to Frankies. catchya on the flip side!

From The Coaches:

3-1 is great momentum builder, of course ups and downs in games.  Neat to see the team coming together more each day.  Supporting each other on and off the court.  Learning to make decisions together and respecting each others opinions.

You should be proud of these kids: they have been great to be around.  Helpful, respectful and fun.  Some of the girls took on "baby sitting" roles in the pool today with  a little 2 year old (named Jamie)  Mom was very appreciative and made sure to tell me and the front desk at the hotel  what a great bunch of girls "I" have

Some good things for some of the kids who have provoked some college coach's interests.I will share more of that with you later.  I am sure that more of the players will be hearing from some of the schools that were in attendance.

Yup off to Frankies for some Miniature golf  The coaches are winning this one!!   Then off to Wake Forest for our private tour.

Lakes takes 5th in Geneva Tournament with win over Antioch PDF Print E-mail
Lakes Varsity beat Antioch on Saturday to take 5th place at the Geneva Tournament.  The geneva Tournametn boasts some of the best teams in the state.  This win is a good one as Antioch is an experienced team and have some great players.

We were the agressors today going to the Free Throw Line 33 times verse 12 for Antioch we made more free throws then they took.  We like this stat as it shows our intensity was up and we were playing hard.

The hard work that the girls put in over the summer is paying off.  We played a lot of games this summer and traveled around for some good camps and tournaments and the dividends are showing.

The extra effort and time on the shooting gun is showing as well. We have shown that we can put 5 players on the floor and they can all score.  For our size we are out rebounding most teams and that is due to heart and effort.

I am really proud of these ladies and beating Antioch for the first time will hopefully only be one of many firsts this season.  We are coming together as  team and will continue to improve.  If you see any of these great young ladies tell them congrats!!!  -Coach Pete Schneider
