CHAMPIONSHIP! PDF Print E-mail

Congrats!!!

The Lakes Lady Eagles Frosh/Soph Team won the National Championship at Fort Wayne Indiana July 24, 2010

Playing 3 games in one day to take the title was awesome to see.  Lakes girls beat North Boone Illinois in the championship by the score of 39-38.  After trailing the entire game by as many as 12 points, they never let up.  Sam Ney hit the go ahead 3 point shot with 2 minutes to go.  Katie Schalbach, Amanda Beechen, Dayna Olson, Emily Webster and Alexis Lee provided all of the rebounding and awesome defense.  Kim Gilliland,Heather Hurlbutt and Marisa Thackston took care of the ball, and continually beat their pressure defense.

The Lakes Varstiy was upset in the opening round on Saturday but finished the tournament with a 5-2 record.  We did not have all of our players but these kids played hard and played some good competition.  Amanda Smith, Ashley Parmly, Ashlee Cunningham, Sara Berry, Evan Morris, Mary Doupis, Ashley Mackey, and Terese McMahon played 7 games in 4 days and got to see schools from all over the Midwest.

It has been a great summer of basketball and this tournament provided the opportunity for us to see players playing at different levels and against solid competition.  Of course we had a great time hanging out and getting closer as a program. To have the Varsity girls spending time with the freshmen and sophomore girls is great!!!!  Their leadership is key for us in building a successful program.

We played over 50 games at the varsity level, the kids coached themselves at times, but really got to know each other and learn what varsity basketball looks like.  The community and parental support has been awesome.  I hope everyone comes out to see us this winter as I believe we are headed in the right direction.

Time for some rest (not to much :) )   Great work Ladies!!!
